Working Together
The Friends of Brander Park Committee was formed in 2024 as one of the City of Cape Town’s “Friends” Associations. Our main goal is to support the maintenance and improvement of Brander Park through personal work and fundraising. Thanks to the dedicated efforts and tremendous generosity of the entire neighbourhood, we continue to work towards this goal.
The formation of the committee was just the latest step in our commitment to the park. Much work has been done over the past few years, resulting in a number of achievements that benefit Brander Park and all its users. We have established a good working relationship with the Municipality and the City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department.
Thanks to the amazing support of friends and neighbours, to date we have achieved the following:
Put up gates in the playground
that are locked at night for more safety and prevention from overnight vandalism etc.
Repaired all irrigation
160 sprinklers are regularly maintained, repaired and and replaced if needed.
Created five unique gardens
to provide a splash of colour on the four corners and in the middle of the park.
Purchased equipment
A ride-on mower and three brush cutters to keep the grass neatly cut and the scrubs trimmed.
Planted trees and care for them
Five mature Milkwood Trees and a Fever Tree provide shade on hot days.
Built a second basketball court
to create more opportunities for exercise and friendly matches.
Made provisions for our furry friends
Five poop bag dispensers and two self filling water bowls were installed.

The first video was taken in summer 2022, before the irrigation system was in place, before the gardens and trees were planted and before the residents decided to support the park with both elbow grease and financial donations.
The second video shows the park in October 2024. It’s lush, it’s green, it’s well watered and taken good care of. None of this is a given. It’s all down to the community and their commitment to keeping Brander Park green.

Continuous maintenance, operation of equipment, replacement of parts, paid labour as well as further improvements all cost money.
